Artist Of The Week – Wizkid

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid, Wizzy, Big Wiz, Machala, or Starboy, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. Wizkid is one of the most popular Nigerian music artists presently and still one of the youngest too. His musical genres include Afrobeat, Afropop, reggae, dancehall, hip-hop, and pop. He started recording music when he was 11 years old and ever since has recorded a lot of hits both at home and on the international scene.

1. Wizkid and Music.

By February 2021, Wizkid was the most-streamed Nigerian artist of all time on Spotify, with over 3.4 billion streams across all credits. On the 24th of August Wizkid’s Made in Lagos rose to number 1 on Billboard World Album Chart.
On the 27 of August 2021, Wizkid released the deluxe edition of his Made in Lagos album.

2. Wizkid And International Acts.

Wizkid was first widely known on the international scene for being featured on “One Dance” by Drake which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the US R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and in Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the UK. He later went on to work with Quee B and was featured on Beyoncé’s project The Lion King: The Gift on the collaboration “Brown Skin Girl”, which won him a Grammy Award for Best Music Video.

3. Wizkid and Fashion.

In an interview with Alex Frank of Vogue magazine in February 2015, Wizkid said he wears a mixture of streetwears and traditional Nigerian clothes.
He cited Pharrell Williams as one of his fashion style icons. Moreover, he revealed plans to establish a clothing line

4. Wizkid and Ablum.

So far, the young protege has released four studio albums and we all know he isn’t done yet.
